We look forward to welcoming you as a new member of IMSANZ and to joining you in advancing the practice of General and Acute Care Medicine in Australia and New Zealand.
IMSANZ has one of the lowest membership fees of any of the specialty societies.
The following amounts are in Australian Dollars.
IMSANZ is your professional specialist society. It is an association of like-minded individuals, providing a focus for general physicians with a broad range of skills and experience to meet in a collaborative forum and maintain skills and knowledge essential to the field of general medicine. There has never been a more important time to be a member of your association.
Our mission is to advance and promote the practice of internal medicine.
In order to achieve our mission we:
Advance Internal Medicine practice for excellent patient care
IMSANZ assists the RACP and others in the development of clinical policy documents. IMSANZ has a number of Special Interest Groups to advance the practice of Internal Medicine, address workforce needs and pathways, and develop and share models of care. These include the the Perioperative Medicine Interest Group, the Point of Care Ultra Sound Interest Group, the Early Careers Group. We also have an IMSANZ 'member-only' private Facebook group, to facilitate discussion between members. To join the group, visit https://www.facebook.com/groups/IMSANZmembers.
Facilitate high quality, relevant and accessible education
IMSANZ holds two annual conferences in Australia and New Zealand. Our conferences are the highlight of the IMSANZ year, where colleagues can come together in inimitable IMSANZ style: with good food and company with lively and provoking discussion, while contributing to your CPD points. Our next conference is being held in New Plymouth, New Zealand from 28 February-1 March 2024. Visit www.imsanzconference.co.nz for more details. The conference will be held as a hybrid event to enable you to view the sessions online in real-time. We are also planning our Australasian conference to be held in Melbourne in September 2024. Visit www.imsanzconference.com.au.
The General & Acute Care Medicine Leader Forum (GACM) is a discussion forum to talk over relevant issues and solutions for general practice and is held in conjunction with our conferences. This session is open to IMSANZ members and non-IMSANZ colleagues working in leadership roles in general and acute care medicine, medical assessment unit, hospital in home etc.
IMSANZ Collaborates with other organisations on conferences we think may be of benefit. These include Colleges (The RACP, ANZCA) and other Societies. The Victorian Internal Medicine Group (VIMG) Lecture Programme continues to be a highlight on the calendar for Advanced Trainees in General and Acute Care Medicine. This collaborative effort between the Victorian Internal Medicine Group and IMSANZ, is aimed at clinical education, information sharing and promoting contacts among those working in the field of internal medicine.
IMSANZ encourages Pacific Islands professional development, providing free access to IMSANZ conferences in a real-time hybrid format. We welcome involvement and collaboration from our Pacific Colleagues.
We also have an IMSANZ 'member only' private Facebook group, to
facilitate discussion between members. To join the group, visit
https://www.facebook.com/groups/IMSANZmembers. To support ongoing professional development and education for our members, we have an extensive library of video recordings from IMSANZ conferences and webinars on our website.
Encourage training in internal medicine and address workforce needs
IMSANZ regularly assists and advises the RACP on training requirements
with representation on a number of College committees, including the Advanced Training Committee (ATC). We are committed
to providing support to trainees through the IMSANZ trainee workshops
held in both Australia and New Zealand every year in conjunction with
our annual conferences. IMSANZ also supports those undertaking dual-training and fosters career pathways and credentialing post-Fellowship in General and Acute Care Medicine, and other pathways such as Obstetric Medicine and Perioperative Medicine. IMSANZ membership is also encouraged for all internal medicine training.
We also promote training through the IMSANZ NZ
Trainee Prize and the Ramesh Nagappan Memorial Award. We invite the
College to our annual conferences to provide supervisor training to our
conference attendees. IMSANZ are proud supporters of the VIMG webinar
series, assisting trainees to present research to their peers. In
addition, IMSANZ also published the top 20 abstracts from the IMSANZ
Australasian Conference as a supplement in the Internal Medicine
Journal.
Advocate on health issues on behalf of general physicians and their patients
IMSANZ regularly provides advice to the RACP on significant issues affecting members, relating to health policy. IMSANZ has recently contributed to the Telehealth discussion, as well as such areas as strategy surrounding disability and endorsing various guidelines.
Encourage research
IMSANZ encourages health service research and clinical epidemiology,
with links to academia. We have also recently launched the IMSANZ Research Network. More information on this is available on the IMSANZ website.
We look forward to welcoming you as a new member of IMSANZ and to
joining you in advancing and promoting the practice of Internal Medicine
in Australia and New Zealand.
